We are committed to having only special snacks for Sunday school, Missions time, kids activities and basically all events involving children. There are a lot of children with specific allergies and reactions to food coloring, etc and Annie’s organic snacks seem to be the only ones locally available that meet their needs.
I got a new box of bunnies and we opened them today for the first time. The kids were a little put off by the new packaging and wondered if the contents would be unchanged. They said the bunnies inside were better and more crunchy.
But the best part was the fact that the outside of the box showed that there were more Cheddar bunnies in the box than in the old ones. This was greeted as very good news by the kids as Cheddar bunnies are without a doubt the favorite. When the cheddar bunnies are gone, they will eat the chocolate chip and chocolate bunnies and the honey bunnies are definitely at the bottom of the list.
It’s funny what kids like and dislike and it is interesting to see them go without a snack if the ones available don’t suit their fancy. I personally have tried all the bunnies and I think the honey bunnies are by far the best, but maybe that is because I am old and not a young kid. I really don’t know. I do know that it is good to have more cheddar bunnies in the box. It makes a lot of kids happier.
What does it take to make someone happy? Sometimes it seems like it just takes a cheddar bunny and not a honey bunny, but that is really instant gratification. When someone hurts a child’s feelings, it takes a lot more to make them smile. Happiness comes from within, but it is truly based on Christ and his love for us. I am trying to teach that lesson in all I do and I hope it is a lesson that the children will eventually truly embrace and believe.
Father, help me as I work with these kids to really help them learn that true happiness comes from within and is from you and your love for them. Amen.
